Huchuyqosqo 2 Days 1 Night

This complex is the most important archaeological center in the valley of Urubamba, after Ollantaytambo and Pisac. The ruins are impressive, although the conservation of the place is inferior to that of Ollantaytambo or Pisac, because they are older.

But contrary to the places before mentioned Huchuy Qosqo has a peculiar architecture: the buildings have been built on bases of refined stone of fine finish, with it revokes of clay (they are better the parts conserved) and the highest floors are made in adobe.

A kallanka is observed (rectangular enclosure that could measure up to 70 meters long and that they were state centers of importance where the Inca officials stayed) of for the less ones 40 to 50 meters long. Also a remarkable building with two stone floors and one adobe superior. There are also big terraces, a very wide square and a great Inca door for which passes a very well conserved road that drives from Tambomachay.

The Hispanic chronicles refer that Huchuy Qosqo (probably well-known place in Inca times as Caquia Jaquijahuana) it was work and favorite place of the Inca Wiracocha. To this, María Rostworoski adds, in its work “History of the Tahuantinsuyo” that this sovereign secured the conquest on the towns of the valley of Urubamba and that he chose as his successor to his Inca son Urco who, gotten dizzy by the power and the bad habits, it demonstrated to be an unable total to govern. The Inca royalty was very confused with this election and they tried to conspire to impose another son of Wiracocha, the prince Cusi Yupanqui. The social uneasiness and the tension increased every day and to worsen everything he/she fell the darkest night on the Cuzco: the Chancas arrived until the doors of the capital and they were willing to destroy it. It is the year of 1438. Wiracocha abandons the city to its luck and, accompanied by its Inca son Urco, he/she takes refuge in its palaces in the valley of Urubamba, among which it was Huchuy Qosqo.

After the Hispanic conquest, Gonzalo Pizarro found the mummy here that, supposedly, it belonged to the Inca Wiracocha and it ordered to burn it. The descendants of the Inca kept the ashes in a tinaja that many years later the columnist Pole of Ondegardo would discover.

Itinerary:

Day 1

He picks up of the hotel in Cusco it will be to the 7:00 am to go in our transport toward Tambomachay that is at about 11km to the north of the you take care.  This is the point of beginning of our adventure with a light ascent, we will go by Qoricocha (lagoon of gold) and the lagoon of Yanacocha (black lagoon) with a great concentration of wild birds. When arriving to the point but high we will see an archaeological group of three Chullpas Pre – Inca, funeral constructions used to harbor Later Inca funeral bales to this will take a desert rest to enjoy our lunch.

We will arrive to Huchuy approximately Qosqo to the 15:30 pm. Huchuy Qosqo is to the 11.800 feet high, in a great natural terrace risen in the superior third of the pick above the city of Lamay. It has a magnificent view to the Sacred Valley of the Inca and of the snowy picks that are located to the other point. Here we will prepare the camp to spend the night under the stars of the Andean south hemisphere.

To the arrival we will also have a guided company. Huchuyqosqo (small Cusco), he/she received their name in the XX century in spite of he/she doesn’t resemble each other to Cusco in the most minimum thing, previously it was known as Kajya Qhawana (place where the ray falls).

Tonight we will have dinner in the camp.

day 2

We will take our nutritious breakfast at 7:00am o’clock in our camp of Huchuy Qosqo, we will pack the whole team and to take pictures of the place with the light of the sun.  You will have free time to be able to explore to own bill their terraces, temples, channels of Huchuy Qosqo. The architecture has the peculiarity that the buildings were built on refined finely completed stone bases, with clay plaster in the parts better conserved, but the superior floors are made of adobe (bricks of mud). we will Observe the stone channel that provides the water that the place travels.  Approximately at 10:00am o’clock we will begin the descent toward the Sacred Valley, arriving at the small Andean town of Lamay (3000m), our descent lasted approximately 2 hours.  In the town of Lamay, our transport will be waiting for us to take us from return to Cusco.

Finally we will be approximately of return in the city of Cusco at 1:00pm o’clock
